Best time to express milk
The morning
To stock up, morning is often the ideal time to express your milk, as this is generally the time when milk production is highest. Expressing milk after the first feeding in the morning can allow you to collect a significant amount.
Between feedings
You can also squeeze in a few dozen minutes between any feedings. This helps maintain good milk production without depriving your baby of his food. Continue to breastfeed as requested. If there is a little less than usual because the milk has been expressed, baby will ask for the next feeding a little faster. And that’s totally okay!
After feedings
Expressing milk immediately after feedings can be useful to completely drain the breasts, but we will only do this when baby has sucking problems. Know that a breast is never empty! This can help prevent engorgement and above all ensure sufficient stimulation for milk production.
